LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

MON, NOV 18

Huron Meadows Metropark: Still snow to be skied on coyote. Several dirt spots to avoid, but was able to make it all the way around on skate skis. If you can get out in morning should still be good for another day.

Nubs Nob: We were pleasantly surprised to find a new skin of snow over the thousands of leaves on the trails. We started from Valley Rd at 33 degrees. We really had no problem skating through the leaves today due to the new snow. Not sure how long this will last. But it was good this morning.

SUN, NOV 17

Hickory Hills: Hickory Meadows was much better than Saturday, it was still very firm but not icy. I had good control for skating. Classic looked like it would have been even better, with twin skins or no wax. Still lots of snow but the end might come tomorrow at least temporarily. Several skiers were out there as well as some fat tire bikers but they did not effect the track conditions.

Valley Spur: Skied this morning at Valley Spur for 2 hrs with Lynne Witte & Larry Truel, both canoe racing friends, and of course, Diane, who got some classic tips from Larry. It was not easy skiing today since warm overnight, so sticky & slow, and more leaves down, but fun to visit with friends & see so many others out on the groomed trails, too. There were some interesting ice formations along US 2 on the way home.

: Interlochen Golf Course (Interlochen, Michigan)
Looking for another option in the Traverse City area for skiing during hunting season? Interlochen Golf Course is skier-friendly with good après ski lunch at Bradley's restaurant. Several inches of soft powder snow completely cover fairways and cart paths. We used wider classic touring skis today. Still too much snow for easy skate skiing. Oak leaves filled tracks made a few days ago, so we made fresh tracks today. Terrain is mostly flat, slightly rolling.

Huron Meadows Metropark: Trails groomed for skate again this morning. Coyote and Contractors loop still the best bet. Some bare spots opening up, but they are avoidable.
Might get another day or two depending on weather.

Forbush Corner: The snowmaking loop was extensively groomed this morning. The deck is smooth and shouldn't be quite as firm as yesterday. Classic tracks also set. The new Ridge Trail, Badlands, and the back of Rollercoaster were skied in nicely so those trails were left alone.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: Yesterday was a very fun day, with lots of people enjoying the trails, demoing skis, and taking ski lessons! The trails remain mostly snow-covered and very skiable with rock skis. Plenty of oak leaves and some thin spots are to be expected. Rolling Hills is in the best condition, followed by Trappers Cabin, Manitou, and Tall Pines. The practice area has roughly 2 feet of man-made snow, with classic tracks set the rest snow-combed. Perfect for demos, lessons, and hill/agility practice! The Stone Turtle Cafe will be "softly" open today with a limited menu today of chili, rolls and cookies. The outdoor Ice Dome Igloo is open, too. Enjoy!
